{"id":3495,"date":"2021-09-30T13:45:03","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T12:45:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eo-ins.org\/?p=3495"},"modified":"2021-09-30T13:45:03","modified_gmt":"2021-09-30T12:45:03","slug":"sentinel-thematic-areas-atmospheric-monitoring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/web.geoland-kosova.com\/?p=3495","title":{"rendered":"Sentinel Thematic Areas \u2013 Atmospheric Monitoring"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Copernicus Sentinel missions support atmospheric monitoring by providing timely, continuous and independent data on the atmosphere, and provide data to support federal, national and local studies and activities, and help in addressing a variety of policy areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sentinel-3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sentinels.copernicus.eu\/web\/sentinel\/user-guides\/sentinel-3-olci\">OLCI<\/a>&nbsp;supports investigations into atmospheric composition (mainly aerosols and water vapour) which is a fundamental parameter for climate studies, and also contributes to the measurements of the downwelling solar radiation (long-wave and short-wave) at the Earth&#8217;s surface and Top Of Atmosphere, which are critical to the estimation of the global Surface Radiation Budget (SRB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sentinels.copernicus.eu\/web\/sentinel\/missions\/sentinel-3\/instrument-payload\/altimetry\">MWR<\/a>&nbsp;instrument measures the atmospheric water content in liquid and vapour phases. This information will be used to enable the Sentinel-3 mission to meet the required altimetry accuracy requirements for the measurements acquired by the SRAL instrument on the same platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The multi-angle, multi-wavelength viewing geometry of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sentinels.copernicus.eu\/web\/sentinel\/user-guides\/sentinel-3-slstr\">SLSTR<\/a>&nbsp;instrument supports the characterisation and investigation of cloud properties through the development of operational cloud products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sentinel-5P<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sentinels.copernicus.eu\/web\/sentinel\/user-guides\/sentinel-5p-tropomi\">TROPOMI<\/a>&nbsp;instrument aboard Sentinel-5P is a dedicated atmospheric monitoring mission, and measures air quality, ozone and ultraviolet radiation, and provides climate monitoring and forecasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Specific Areas &#8211; Atmospheric Monitoring<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:17% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/web.geoland-kosova.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/green-house-gases_-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3496 size-full\" srcset=\"http:\/\/web.geoland-kosova.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/green-house-gases_-1.png 120w, http:\/\/web.geoland-kosova.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/green-house-gases_-1-80x80.png 80w, http:\/\/web.geoland-kosova.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/green-house-gases_-1-36x36.png 36w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-fs-16-px-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sentinels.copernicus.eu\/web\/sentinel\/thematic-areas\/atmospheric-monitoring\/greenhouse-gases\">Greenhouse Gases<\/a> &#8211; Greenhouse gases help to keep our planet warm, but with too much the planet&#8217;s temperature would increase, and by contrast the temperature would plummet without these gases.
